Danieli has successfully started up the largest EAF in the world — 420-tonne twin-electrode DC EAF with continuous charge system — at Tokyo Steel’s Tahara Plant.
In addition to the furnace and charge system, Danieli’s scope included all additional equipment and auxiliary services necessary for the annual production of up to 2.6 million tonnes of quality steel. The company will also operate a corresponding-size ladle furnace and twin vacuum system, installed in the same single-bay meltshop, for the production of low- and ultra-low carbon and Al-killed steel grades.
Danieli also supplied a highly efficient fume-treatment plant that will help the Tahara Plant to comply with the strictest environmental requirements. The entire facility will operate using Danieli’s full automation system based on L1 and L2, which will fully guarantee automatic process setting and control for the new EAF, ladle furnace, vacuum degasser, and fume treatment plant.
Tokyo Steel’s goals in selecting technological solutions for its new EAF included achieving extremely efficient operating results with lowest manpower and specific energy consumption.
