Camp Hill, Pennsylvania-based Harsco Corp. has announced that its Harsco Environmental division has entered into a multi-year services contract extension with existing customer, Arkansas Steel Associates LLC (ASA), the operator of a scrap-fed electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mill in Newport, Arkansas.
According to Harsco, the new seven-year contract is for mill services and includes scrap management, slag management and refractory services at the mill, which produces tie plates for the North American railway industry.
The new agreement extends Harsco Environmental’s prior seven-year relationship for another seven years, cementing Harsco’s role as a service provider for slag and scrap management, slag processing, metal recovery and refractory services.
“Arkansas Steel Associates is pleased that Harsco Environmental will be our mill service provider for another seven-year contract period,” says Rich Anderson, a vice president with ASA. “We have appreciated Harsco Environmental’s good service and responsiveness to our needs.”
“This contract extension provides a strong foundation for Harsco Environmental and Arkansas Steel Associates to continue their efforts focused on achieving sustainable environmental goals for years to come,” comments Russ Mitchell, chief operating officer of Harsco Environmental.
The ASA Newport mill has been jointly owned by Tokyo-based Sumitomo Corp. and Japan-based Yamato Kogyo Co. Ltd. since 1989. According to the Sumitomo website, ASA operates a 50-tons-per-hour scra[-fed EAF melt shop at the mill site.
