India HRC exports rebound in November

Indian hot rolled coil exports rose 83.9% month-on-month in November to 410,382 tonnes, reversing the previous month’s decline, according to provisional Cybex customs data accessed by Kallanish.

In October, HRC exports fell 20.4% m-o-m to 223,160 tonnes, after rising 77.5% m-o-m in September to 280,325t and 86% m-o-m in August to 157,902t.

The data cover HS codes under heading 7208, primarily 720837, 720838 and 720839, which include hot rolled carbon steel coil and sheet of 10mm thickness and over 600mm width, excluding stainless steel.

Vietnam, Italy and France emerged as the top export destinations in November, compared with Vietnam, France and Oman in October.

Vietnam remained the largest destination, taking 147,769t, up 15% m-o-m. Tata Steel was the biggest supplier at 82,403t, with the consignee not identified, followed by JSW Vijayanagar Metallics at 65,366t, supplied entirely to Pointer Investment HK.

Ennore and Paradeep were the Indian loading ports, while Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Nghi Son and Phu My were the Vietnamese discharge ports.

Overall shipments to Asia rose 17% m-o-m to 160,962t, with Vietnam accounting for 92% of the volume. Vietnam remained as the top destination for the second consecutive month, supported by competitive Indian pricing versus regional alternatives, steady downstream demand and trader-led restocking ahead of year-end, sources say.

Italy was the second-largest market, importing 94,161t in November. JSW Steel led supplies at 55,270t, with main consignees including Win Faith Trading Ltd, Unisteel International DMCC and Comal Ferlatta. Tata Steel followed with 38,891t, with the consignee not identified.

France ranked third, importing 64,999t, almost entirely supplied by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India at 64,933t. Goa and Magdalla were the Indian ports, with Dunkirk the sole French port of discharge.

Total shipments to Europe surged 391% m-o-m to 226,412t, with Italy and France accounting for 42% and 29% of volumes respectively.

Indian HRC exports to the EU rose during the month despite uncertainty over CBAM methodology and concerns about safeguard quota exhaustion, as buyers moved to restock ahead of CBAM implementation timelines.
