Starting May 11, 2025, Malaysia will impose five-year anti-dumping duties on flat-rolled products of iron or non-alloy steel, and tinplate from China and other Asian nations, following an investigation on the imports of the products.
The Royal Malaysian Customs Department will enforce the collection of the anti-dumping duties on these imports for five years, starting from May 11, 2025, to May 10, 2030, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti).
Definitive anti-dumping duties have been imposed on imports of the subject merchandise from the following countries: The People’s Republic of China (4.48% to 20.42%), the Republic of India (27.88%), Japan (15.74% to 36.80%), and the Republic of Korea (21.60% to 35.43%).
These duties apply to the importation of flat-rolled products of iron, non-alloy steel, and tinplate.
According to Miti, the investigation was carried out under Malaysia’s anti-dumping laws on Aug 14, 2024, after a petition by local producer Perusahaan Sadur Timah Malaysia (Perstima) Bhd (KL:PERSTIM).
The government has completed the investigation and made a final determination that the subject merchandise is being imported into Malaysia at a price lower than the selling price in the alleged countries, causing material injury to the domestic industry in Malaysia producing the like product.
“With the imposition of anti-dumping duties on the imports of subject merchandise from the alleged countries, it is expected that the effects of unfair trade practices will be addressed,” said Miti.
