JSW Steel’s main steel plant at Ballari in the South Indian state of Karnataka ha reportedly maintained its capacity utilization, amidst spread of number of Covid-19 cases in the district. The company did not disclose its capacity utilization rate in the month of June. It must be noted that the facility had returned to 83% of its full capacity in the month of May this year, from the levels of 38% in April.
The first Covid-19 case was reported at the facility in early June this year. A total of around 280 employees have been affected so far, out of which around 50% have been cured after treatment. Nearly 2,800 people across the township have been quarantined. As per reports, almost 50% of the total employees were asked to Work From Home (WFH) ever since the first case was reported on 4th June.
The company stated that it has taken a string of measures to contain further spread of the infection among employees and local community members. Furthermore, the company has offered to convert its OP Jindal Vocational Training Centre into a Covid-19 Treatment Centre and its Jindal Sanjeevani Multi-Specialty Hospital into a full-fledged Covid-19 care Hospital.
