Metinvest has suspended production at its enterprises in the Zaporizhzhia region due to the unfolding Russian invasion of Ukraine, the company tells Kallanish.
Zaporizhkoks and Zaporizhstal are temporarily switching to hot conservation mode. At the same time, there will be no staff reductions, with certain workers identified to ensure the conservation regime. All other employees are put on idle status but on full salary.
“The decision to restore a full-fledged production process will be made based on the situation,” the company says. “Now, our goal is to preserve teams and enterprises for the future.”
Metinvest previously declared force majeure to customers and partners due to the impact of Russia’s invasion (see Kallanish passim).
Earlier, on Monday, the company said it continues to mine iron ore in Kryvyi Rih at the Central GOK and Inguletsky GOK. The enterprises of the Pokrovskaya Coal Group were operating as usual. At Kametstal, the former DMK, operations continued at the steelmaking and coke-chemical divisions.
Last week, Metinvest suspended production at its Mariupol-based Ilyich and Azovstal plants following the invasion.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (AMKR) announced on Tuesday it had suspended the operation of blast furnace No.9 due to a lack of raw materials. Blast furnaces No.6 and No.8 will continue to operate normally.
The plant already announced the suspension of steel production to a technical minimum due to the war, with output stopping at its underground mines.
Centravis meanwhile extended the shutdown of production until 9 March, after it stopped work on 28 February.
Iron ore pellet maker Ferrexpo says: “The situation in Ukraine remains complex and volatile. The Ukrainian Railways network provides limited capacity to its freight customers and the group can confirm that it is shipping some of its production to Ukraine's western border for customers in Europe.”
