India’s JSW Steel lifts January output by 15pc on year

Indian private-sector producer JSW Steel raised its January crude steel output by 15pc on the year to 1.65mn t on the back of its Dolvi plant expansion in Maharashtra state.

Its crude steel output also rose by 8pc on the month. Production of flat-rolled products rose by 23pc on the year to 1.25mn t, while that of long-rolled products increased by 4pc to 374,000t. Production of flat and long products also rose by 12pc and 16pc on the month, respectively.

JSW's Dolvi expansion project commenced commercial operations in November last year, doubling the plant's capacity to 10mn t/yr.

Robust consumption from the automotive, infrastructure and construction sectors will support India's domestic steel demand during the January-March quarter, JSW said last month.

The Argus domestic India hot-rolled coil (HRC) index stood at 66,500 rupees/t ($880/t) on 4 February, up by 20pc from a year earlier, while the Argus cfr Asean HRC index was at $828/t yesterday, up by 27pc on the year.
