Indonesia Dexin Steel has started construction of its No.3 blast furnace, as part of the capacity expansion project of its steelworks' first phase.
The design capacity of the blast furnace is 1.52 million tonnes/year, Kallanish notes. Dexin Steel signed last June an engineering & procurement contract with MCC's WISDRI for a new blast furnace and converter for the expansion project.
With the new equipment, Dexin will boost its capacity from 3.5 million tonnes/year to 5m t/y of iron and 7m t/y of crude steel in the first half of 2022 (see Kallanish passim). Dexin's steel project, located in Morowali Industrial Park in Central Sulawesi, is jointly funded by Delong Group, Shanghai Decent Investment, PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park and Hanwa Singapore (Private) Limited.
According to the letter of intent signed on 10 October 2020, Indonesia Dexin plans eventually to boost the Indonesian project's total capacity to 20m t/y.
