PT Gunbuster Nickel Industries (GNI) in Indonesia saw the first production of nickel pig iron in North Morowali Regency in Central Sulawesi Province on 13 December, Kallanish notes.
The company plans 52 production lines at the rotary kiln electric arc furnace (RKEF) based nickel smelter. Among them, 24 lines are expected to produce from the end of 2021, with the consumption of 13 million wet tonnes/year of nickel ore and production capacity of 1.8m t/y of ferronickel. A total of $2.7 billion will be invested.
GNI started the construction of this project in 2019. It is a nickel smelting subsidiary of Delong Nickel Indonesia.
