According to provisional statistics from the Italian steelmakers' association Federacciai, Italy’s crude steel output totaled 2.2 million tons in October this year, falling by 4.1% compared to the previous month while rising by 4.2% from the same period a year ago.
However, the output had two-digit year-on-year growth in the past seven months, showing that the increase in the October output has slowed down, which was mainly due to soaring power costs. The sharply increased electricity costs made electric arc furnace (EAF) producers cut their output.
In the first ten months of this year, Italy's crude steel output amounted to more than 20.7 million tons, up by 24% year on year.
