Malaysia announced that the new import regulations on scrap metal will be postponed until next year in order to give the industry more time to adapt to the new regulations and comply with them.
The new import regulations, originally planned to be implemented from November 1 this year, will only allow the imports of high-grade scrap.
Due to environmental issues, China only allows high-quality scrap imports. Malaysia worries that it will become a country with dumped scrap in Asia, so it proposed stricter restrictions on scrap metal imports this year.
