According to the report, Indonesian steelmaker PT Krakatau Steel's new blast furnace will be operational in the third quarter of 2022. There are two potential strategic partners and one candidate has even signed a memorandum of understanding with Krakatau Steel.
There is another partner who is interested in working on the blast furnace, Silmy Karim, director of the company said. The operation of the new blast furnace will use iron sand technology, which mostly uses domestic raw materials. Using iron sand is likely to reduce production costs and reduce imports of raw materials from abroad.
