According to the latest statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (USITC), the US exported nearly 1.9 million tons of iron and steel scrap this August, up by 35% compared to the previous month while slightly sliding by 0.3% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the exports to Mexico accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 397,200 tons, a month-on-month increase of 35.1 and a year-on-year hike of 196.8%. Other main export destinations included Turkey (around 394,300 tons), Bangladesh (around 328,400 tons), Taiwan (around 124,300 tons), and South Korea (around 108,000 tons).
During the period, the export value amounted to approximately US$897 million, up by 36.5% month on month and 162.1% year on year.
