Japan’s carbon steel exports not yet returned to pre-epidemic level despite good overseas demand

According to statistics from the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF), Japan exported around 1.96 million tons of carbon steel in July this year, growing by nearly 23% compared to the same period a year ago, which was the year-on-year increase for three months in a row.

It was understood that if Japan’s domestic steel mills hadn’t taken priority of domestic requirements, the carbon steel exports in July could have risen more.

The whole demand from foreign buyers has have improved, while the domestic steel mills didn’t raise their export volume and therefore couldn’t make exports have a significant increase to resume the pre-epidemic level.
