Pak Steel eyes infrastructure growth with capacity expansion

Pakistan-based Pak Steel will increase its rolling mill production capacity from 200,000 tonnes/year to 650,000 t/y. The new line will be commissioned in the quarter through June 2022.

Primetals Technologies will supply the bar rolling mill for Pak Steel, Kallanish notes. “The billets will be hot charged to the rolling mill, which will produce rebars with diameters ranging from 8 to 40mm. In order to increase the productivity of the plant, bars with diameters between 10 and 12mm will be rolled in two-slit mode, and those with diameter 8mm in three-slit mode,” says the technology maker.

“The rolling line will consist of a 6-stand roughing train in VHVHHV arrangement, a six-stand intermediate train in HVHVHV arrangement, and a 4-stand finishing train in HHHH arrangement. All the sixteen rolling stands will be housing less red ring series-5. The maximum rolling rate is 75t per hour and the products will be finished at a maximum rolling speed of 13 meters/second,” it adds.

Pak Steel is a manufacturer of rebar and structural steel. Its products include deformed and plain steel bars, cold works bars, and structural steel – angles, U-channels, tee iron and girders. The new mill will enable the steel plant to enlarge its footprint in the growing regional market of infrastructure projects.
