The Zaporizhstal Steelworks produced 46.2 thousand tonnes of steel in August this year. This is stated in the company’s news digest.
Cast iron production for the period totalled 42.4 thousand tonnes, whilst rolled steel production totalled 45 thousand tonnes.

Compared with June, total production of pig iron fell by 158,000 tonnes, steel by 181,000 tonnes and rolled steel by 127,000 tonnes.
Last month, Zaporizhstal completely halted operations following Russian ballistic missile strikes on the plant on 11 and 27 August. Seven workers were killed at the plant, and a further 21 were injured. Power and transport infrastructure, as well as blast furnace and coking plant facilities, were damaged.
Russia continues to destroy Ukraine’s steel industry. On the night of 5 September, the Kametsstal steelworks (in Kamianske) was hit by several ballistic missiles. According to a statement from Metinvest’s press office, five people were killed in the attack and a further four employees were injured. Key production facilities and infrastructure were also damaged — the plant has completely halted production.
As reported by GMK Center, Ukraine’s iron and steel sector is currently going through its most difficult period not only since the start of the full-scale war, but also since the country gained independence. The sector is a key pillar of the domestic economy: taking supply chains into account, it accounts for around 5.5% of GDP and approximately 15% of the country’s export revenue (over $6 billion in 2025).
