The environmental impact assessment (EIA) report for Kocaer Çelik's planned integrated steelmaking and rolling mill project in Aliaga, western Türkiye, has entered a key stage after being finalised by the Review and Evaluation Commission.
The report has been opened for public review and comments for a period of ten calendar days at the Turkish Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and the İzmir Provincial Directorate.
The project involves the construction of a steelmaking facility with an annual liquid steel production capacity of 1.25 million tonnes. It also includes the addition of a new 500,000 t/year hot rolling mill alongside the company's existing 360,000 t/y hot rolling capacity.
The investment aims to increase Kocaer's production capacity while strengthening its integrated manufacturing infrastructure, Kallanish notes.
Comments and recommendations submitted during the public consultation period will be taken into consideration before the ministry issues its final decision on the EIA approval process.
