Rebar offer prices in Singapore have fallen this week, Kallanish notes. Wire rod offers from China are stable despite some signs of weakness in the ASEAN region.
Chinese-origin theoretical-weight rebar offers for July shipment have fallen to $520-525/tonne cfr Singapore compared to offers heard generally last week at $530/t cfr Singapore.
Traders were already bearish last week over Chinese rebar because of the downturn in the Chinese steel futures market. Moreover, the rainy season in China is expected to crimp construction activity and domestic demand for rebar in China. They had anticipated a downward price correction for Chinese offers this week.
Some already saw Chinese rebar offered at $520/t cfr last week. “The market is very weak,” a Singapore trader said on Thursday.
Theoretical-weight Malaysian rebar for July shipment is heard offered in the market at $530/t cfr. However, the mill is heard willing to consider firm bids at $525/t delivered by truck to Singapore. This would be equivalent to $515/t cfr Singapore and apply for orders of 10,000 tonnes, similar to Chinese-origin rebar orders.
Kallanish assesses BS4449 500B 10-40mm diameter rebar at $510-515/t cfr Singapore, down $2.5 on-week.
Meanwhile, in Manila, offers for 6.5mm Q195 wire rod from China for June/July shipment are hovering at around $525/t. But there was some buying heard a week ago at around $520/t cfr.
Prices had already corrected by around $5/t two weeks ago, a Manila trader notes on the stability in offers week-on-week.
Kallanish assesses SAE 1008/Q195 6.5-8mm diameter wire rod at $515/t cfr Manila, up $2.5 on-week.
In Vietnam, an offer for Chinese 6.5mm diameter Q195 grade wire rod for delivery by end-June is seen at $512/t cfr this week.
Indonesia’s Dexin Steel’s wire rod export price fell $5/t to $515/t fob for July shipment effective Thursday. The mill’s wire rod export price previously held at $520/t fob since 22 April.
In Thailand, Chinese-origin wire rod is offered at $520/t cif and Dexin wire rod at $540/t fob this week, Thai trading sources say.
