Australia investigates galvanized steel from South Korea, Vietnam

Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commission has initiated an investigation into galvanized steel from South Korea and Vietnam, reports Kallanish.

The goods being targeted are flat-rolled galvanized steel of a thickness of 0.3mm up to and including 3.5mm, and of any width.

They are classified under HS codes 7210.49.00, 7212.30.00, 7225.92.00 and 7226.99.00.

The investigation comes in response to the second application lodged by local steelmaker BlueScope Steel Limited. The company submitted its first application at the end of April but withdrew it last Friday.

In the latest application, South Korea’s Dongkuk Coated Metal, Dongkuk Steel Mill, and Posco Holdings are targeted, as well as Vietnam’s Hoa Sen Group and Nam Kim. Dongkuk Coated Metal was not mentioned in the first application.

In the first four months of the year, shipments into Australia of the products from South Korea and Vietnam rose 2.3% and slumped 29.3% year-on-year respectively, reaching 19,626 tonnes and 15,829t, according to mirror data of Australia’s trade.

During the period, the two countries were the largest suppliers with a market share of 41.9% and 33.8% respectively, followed by Taiwan’s 13% and China’s 6.6%.

Parties interested in the AD probe are invited to submit relevant materials no later than 8 June. The commission plans to finish the statement of essential facts by 18 August, over two months before the Minister for Industry and Innovation makes a final decision on whether to impose anti-dumping duties.
