China's white goods output to decline 12% YoY in June

China’s scheduled production of the country’s three most popular home appliances -- air conditioners, refrigerators and washing machines -- is estimated to reach 30.04 million units in June, down 11.8% from actual output recorded in June 2025, according to the latest report from ChinaIOL.com, a domestic information provider tracking China’s home appliance and refrigeration industries.

The decline marks a sharp acceleration from the 1.4% drop in scheduled output seen in May, Mysteel Global noted.

Among the three categories, air-conditioners are expected to post the steepest decline, with scheduled output forecast to fall 18.9% on year to 15.23 million units. Refrigerator production is projected to decrease 4.1% to 7.83 million units, while washing machine output is expected to edge down 1.9% to 6.98 million units.

ChinaIOL attributed the decline to several factors.

In China's domestic market, high inventory levels at manufacturers and dealers, a sluggish property market, and weak consumer spending will continue to weigh on demand for home appliances. Even the approach of China's biggest mid-year shopping festival, the "618" sales event -- originally centered on June 18 but later expanded into a month-long promotion beginning in late May -- failed to generate strong buying momentum. As a result, manufacturers chose to scale back production to ease supply pressure.

On the export side, ChinaIOL noted that China's air-conditioner exports to the Middle East fell 36.6% on year during January-April amid the ongoing conflict in the region. Demand in Latin America has also remained weak this year due to the economic slowdown there. In contrast, overseas demand for refrigerators and washing machines has remained relatively stable, according to the report.
