In the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, the Indian company Jindal Steel increased its steel production by 6%—to 2.65 million tons—compared to the previous quarter, or by 26% compared to the same period last year. This was reported by BigMint.
At the same time, sales of steel products rose to 2.6 million tons, which is 15% higher than the previous quarter and 23% higher compared to the same quarter last year. Overall, for the 2026 fiscal year, production rose by 14% year-over-year to 9.25 million tons, and sales by 9% year-over-year to 8.7 million tons. All these figures set new historical highs for the company.
The main factor behind these production records was the commissioning during the fourth quarter of the BOF2 and BOF3 converters, each with a capacity of 3 million tons per year. This allowed Jindal Steel to increase its total steel production capacity to 15.6 million tons per year.
As a reminder, the German industrial group Thyssenkrupp has suspended negotiations with Jindal Steel regarding the potential sale of its steelmaking division. The talks, which began in September 2025, broke down, likely due to disagreements over pension obligations, investment volumes, and energy costs.
As reported by GMK Center, last October, Jindal commissioned a new steel plant in West Bengal. Investments in the project totaled approximately $169 million. The new facility added 0.6 million tons per year of capacity, increasing JIL’s total production by approximately 60%—from 1 million tons per year to 1.6 million tons per year.
