China-based Jingdong Steel has reached the 60% completion mark for its US$500 million steel plates and pipes plant in Algeria's M'sila province, according to the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency.
Located in the Dhraâ El Hadja industrial zone, the 36-hectare facility is designed to produce 500,000 tons annually. This includes a 200,000-ton steel plate line and a 300,000-ton steel pipe unit. Half of the output is earmarked for export, positioning the plant as a North African manufacturing hub for construction materials.
The project, backed by a land concession signed in June 2025, is expected to source 80% of its raw materials locally from Algeria's Gara Djebilet iron ore deposit. Once operational, it will create 1,114 jobs and feature a training center to support technology transfer.
