In January 2026, Ukrainian steel companies reduced exports of long rolled steel products by 61.9% compared to January 2025, to 19 thousand tons. Compared to the previous month, the figure fell by 75.2%. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.
Carbon steel wire (HS 7217) accounted for 33.3% of total long product exports, amounting to 6.37 thousand tons (-49.5% y/y; -39.2% m/m). 1.75 thousand tons were shipped to Poland, 1.28 thousand tons to Germany, and 0.87 thousand tons to Moldova.
During this period, Ukrainian producers also exported 5.18 thousand tons of hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS 7213), which is 62.5% less y/y and 84.8% m/m. Most of the products were sent to Poland – 3.01 thousand tons. Another 1.27 thousand tons were exported to Lithuania and 0.4 thousand tons to Moldova.
4.17 thousand tons (-77.3% y/y; -83.7% m/m) of exports are accounted for by other carbon steel bars and rods, not further processed, twisted (HS 7214). The main consumers were Moldova (2.85 thousand tons), Poland (1 thousand tons), and Lithuania (0.3 thousand tons).
Foreign exchange earnings from exports of long products in January fell by 57% y/y and 709.4% m/m – to $15.12 million.
It should be noted that in 2025, Ukraine increased its exports of long rolled steel products by 45.4% compared to the same period in 2024, to 892.07 thousand tons. Hot-rolled bars and rods made of carbon steel in coils (HS 7213) accounted for 42.4% of total long steel exports, amounting to 378.52 thousand tons (+46.5% y/y). Foreign exchange earnings increased by 34.9% y/y to $609.8 million.
