Heavy rains affect Vale's operations in Minas Gerais

Vale has temporarily suspended activities at its Fábrica and Viga units, Kallanish notes.

The Brazilian miner implemented emergency measures at the sites after heavy rains caused flooding in the municipalities of Congonhas and Ouro Preto on Sunday. The flow also reached areas owned by CSN Mineração (CMIN), Brazil-based Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional’s mining arm.

“The situation has been contained. Nearby populations and communities were not affected. No mining tailings were released, only water with sediments,” Vale confirms.

Vale reiterates that the event is not connected to any of its dams in the region, all of which maintain normal stability conditions and are under continuous 24/7 monitoring.
