Mexico extends duty on Chinese steel mesh

Mexico has renewed the existing ad valorem duty on imported galvanized square welded steel mesh from China, Kallanish learns from a statement published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). The latest review was requested by steelmaker Deacero.

According to the resolution, the measure is valid for five years, entering into force retrospectively as of 10 October 2024. Mexican authorities note there is sufficient evidence of damage to the domestic industry of products under HS codes 7314.19.03, 7314.19.99 and 7314.31.01 in the period from August 2023 through July 2024.

The Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE) first imposed an ad valorem duty of $2.08/kg on the square welded steel mesh originating from China in October 2014 for five years. The measure was extended in 2019.
