Indian HRC trades in Vietnam

Indian hot rolled coil continues to draw interest in an otherwise dull market for imports in Vietnam, Kallanish notes.

Offers for SAE 1006 HRC from India for January/February shipment are prevailing at $480-485/tonne cfr Vietnam.

A vessel carrying around 30,000t of Indian-origin 2mm and up thickness HRC comprising 2mm and up thickness SAE 1006 HRC and SS400 grades was booked at $480-482/t cfr Hai Phong, trading sources in Vietnam say. A second deal, also for a vessel containing mostly SAE 1006 grade HRC, is heard to have booked Thursday at under $480/t cfr Ho Chi Minh, but traders say that they are unable to confirm this deal.

Other origin offers are priced relatively higher. Indonesian’s 3mm base thickness SAE 1006 HRC offered at $485-488/t cfr is “not workable now", a Vietnamese trader says. South Korean-origin HRC is offered at an unchanged $490/t cfr.

Chinese 2,000mm wide Q235 HRC for January shipment is offered at $480-483/t cfr Vietnam.

A Vietnamese producer is heard to have sold out its recent HRC domestic sales allocation. It was previously heard to have sold 80% of its 250,000t allocation during the week through 19 December. The mill gave a discount of VND 50/kg ($2/t) last week for bookings of 10,000t and more, Vietnamese trading sources report.

Kallanish assesses SAE grade 2-2.7mm thickness HRC at $475-480/t cfr Vietnam, up $2.5/t week-on-week.
