Vietnam's iron, steel imports remain high in November

Vietnam's iron and steel imports slipped slightly month-on-month in November but the decline was lower than that of the same period last year, Kallanish notes.

Vietnam imported around 1.52 million tonnes of iron and steel in November, down 0.4% m-o-m but up 3.8% year-on-year, according to preliminary data from Vietnam Customs. The imports of the products in January – November reached 14.24mt, down 11.9% y-o-y.

Meanwhile, ferrous waste and scrap imports of Vietnam fell 23.8% on-month and 4.3% on-year to 429,802t. However, the imports in January – November were 29.1% higher compared to one year earlier at approximately 5.57mt.

The iron and steel exports of Vietnam went down 4.9% m-o-m and 26.6% y-o-y to 644,311t in November, taking the exports in January – November down 22.6% on-year to around 9.22mt.

Although both the imports and exports of the products dropped versus the earlier month in November, the value of imports grew 4.4% m-o-m while the value exports declined 5.3% m-o-m.
