In October 2025, Polish steel enterprises increased steel production by 5% compared to the previous month, but reduced it by 11.5% year-on-year, to 550,000 tons. Thus, the country fell to 21st place in the World Steel global ranking of steel producers.
In January-October, Polish metallurgists produced 6.21 million tons of steel, which is 3.5% more than in the same period of 2024.
The restart of the important Huta Częstochowa enterprise contributed to the recovery of steel production in Poland since the beginning of the year. Since February 3, the plant has been operating at full capacity after more than a year of downtime. At the same time, production volumes have been gradually slowing down since August, indicating ongoing problems in the industry, in particular high energy prices, weak demand, and market oversaturation with imports.
ArcelorMittal Poland recently announced the closure of the historic Huta Królewska plant in Chorzów, and in September temporarily shut down one of its two blast furnaces in Dąbrowa Górnicza due to the difficult market environment, without specifying a restart date.
The industry is demanding that the cost of electricity for energy-intensive industries be reduced to €50/MWh. Representatives of the sector emphasize that high electricity prices remain the main barrier to improving the market situation.
Overall, EU steelmakers reduced steel production by 3.5% y/y in October 2025 – to 10.8 million tons, and by 3.2% y/y in January-October – to 105.7 million tons.
In 2024, Poland increased steel production by 10.1% compared to 2023, from 6.4 million tons to 7.1 million tons. The country ranked 25th in the global ranking of steel-producing countries (71) by World Steel.

There are six steel enterprises in Poland, including ArcelorMittal Warszawa (capacity of 0.75 million tons of steel per year), Celsa Huta Ostrowiec (0.9 million tons/year), Huta Czestochowa (0.84 million tons/year), CMC Zawiercie (1.7 million tons/year), ArcelorMittal Dąbrowa Górnicza (5 million tons/year), and Ferrostal Labedy Gliwice (0.5 million tons/year).
