Feng Hsin Steel, Taiwan's largest rebar producer headquartered in Taichung in central Taiwan, has decided to hold its rebar list prices and procurement prices for local scrap for transactions over November 24-28, a company official confirmed.
For business discussions till this Friday, the mini-mill continues to offer its 13mm-diameter rebar at TWD 16,400/tonne ($521/t) EXW, the same level as last week, and its buying price for local HMS 1&2 80:20 scrap stays unchanged on week at TWD 8,200/t, according to the official.
Last week, the mini-mill had raised both its rebar list prices and buying prices for scrap by TWD 200/t, as Mysteel Global reported.
Prices of global scrap delivered to Taiwan have kept stable of late, with that of US-sourced HMS 1&2 80:20 scrap staying at $300/t CFR Taiwan as of November 24, the same level as two months earlier. Similarly, the price of Japan-origin H2 scrap was reported at $315/t CFR Taiwan, unchanged from the prior week, a local market source said.
Feng Hsin's official explained that local rebar prices have lost the impetus to move up further, as demand from end-users remains weak. The uptick in the past week was mainly underpinned by the international market conditions, he added.
Prices of rebar in the Chinese mainland strengthened further this week, as market sentiment improved in anticipation of the US Federal Reserve cutting interest rates and amid strong expectations in China that new supportive measures may be introduced during next month's Central Economic Work Conference.
On November 24, China's national price of HRB400E 20mm rebar -- an indicator of domestic steel-market sentiment -- was assessed by Mysteel at Yuan 3,283/tonne ($463/t) including 13% VAT, higher by Yuan 15/t from one week before.
China's rebar prices in the futures market have also remained firm, with the most-traded contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange for delivery in January 2026 closing the daytime trading session at Yuan 3,089/t on November 24, up by Yuan 13/t from the settlement price on November 17.
