Chinese export prices for commercial-grade hot-rolled coils (HRC) generally remained stable during November 1-7, while overseas buying of China-origin coils was limited, Mysteel's latest market roundup shows.
On November 7, Mysteel assessed the export price of SS400 3mm HRC from North China's Tianjin port stayed unchanged for the second straight week at $440/t FOB on week.
In Southeast Asia, as of November 7, import prices for HRC of the same spec SS400 3mm from China and elsewhere also stayed flat for two weeks in a row at $453/t CFR, according to Mysteel's tracking.
Meanwhile, quoted prices for hot coils from Malaysian steel mills largely kept steady. Hot coils bound for Turkey from Malaysia were quoted at $530-540/t CFR Turkey, higher by $5/t. Hot coils bound for Vietnam from Malaysia were quoted at $520/t CFR, unchanged from the prices offered two weeks ago. Hot coil resources bound for Europe were quoted at €480-490/t CFR ($554-565/t), the report said.
In the Middle East, the HRC market continued to revive, underpinned by recovering demand from local manufacturing and infrastructure sectors, as reported.
In the UAE, import prices for hot coils edged lower to $485-510/t CFR UAE. Indian-origin hot coils were quoted at $510 CFR UAE, with transaction prices centering around $500-510/t CFR. Offering prices from Chinese mills hovered around $485-490/t CFR UAE.
In addition to HRC from India and China, hot coils from Taiwan and Japan have also entered the UAE market recently. Hot coils with a thickness below 2mm from steel mills in Taiwan were sold to UAE at $495/t CFR. These coils were mainly for December and next January shipment.
In Saudi Arabia, import prices for HRC remained largely stable, with 1.2 mm hot coils transacted at around $530-535/t CFR Saudi Arabia. In addition, it was said that 30,000 tonnes of Chinese hot coils were sold to Saudi Arabia at prices lower than $490/t CFR. Indian coils also returned to that market, with quoted prices sitting above $515/t CFR Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, on November 7, Mysteel assessed the export price for Chinese 1.0mm SPCC cold-rolled coil at $516/t FOB from Tianjin port, down by a small $2/t on week.
