Kyoei Steel raises rebar prices due to costs

Japanese electric arc furnace steel maker Kyoei Steel is to raise its rebar prices at all plants by JPY 2,000/tonne ($13/t) month-on-month in November due to rising costs.

Higher raw materials costs, increased electricity, labour and transportation costs as well as fixed costs growth have resulted in profit deterioration at a time when domestic construction steel demand remains sluggish, Kallanish notes.

The latest price increase by the company due to higher costs was in September this year, when values rose by JPY 5,000/t on-month.

In comparison, China's Shagang announced it was to maintain its base price for HRB400 rebar compared with ten days earlier at CNY 3,450/t ($486/t) in late-October while Zenith and Yonggang cut theirs by CNY 50/t period-on-period to CNY 3,350/t and CNY 3,400/t respectively.
