Crude steel output among the member mills of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) during the first nine months fell by 1.3% on year to 619 million tonnes, according to the latest data released by the association on October 21.
Their output accounted for 83% of China's nationwide crude steel production of 746 million tonnes in the first three quarters, Mysteel Global calculated based on the statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
In parallel, finished steel production among these members came in at 629 million tonnes during January-September, posting a 1.9% rise from a year ago. This compares with China's total finished steel output of 1.1 billion tonnes during the same period, which saw a larger on-year gain of 5.4%, the NBS data showed.
For September alone, CISA's member mills logged on-year drops in both crude and finished steel output, with the former down by 1% on year to sit at 62.9 million tonnes, while the latter dipped by 0.7% on year to 66.2 million tonnes, according to the release.
Meanwhile, output of crude steel and finished steel throughout China last month reached 73.5 million tonnes and 124.2 million tonnes respectively, with the former lower by 4.6% on year and the latter higher by 5.1% on year, according to the NBS statistics.
