Vietnam’s Formosa Ha Tinh Steel (FHS) lowered its domestic monthly prices for its latest allocation of December-shipment hot rolled coil on Wednesday, Kallanish understands.
Weak demand is the main reason for the adjustment, trading sources in Vietnam say.
The price drop is $11/tonne for orders of 10,000t and above. FHS had announced unchanged prices of VND 13,814/kg ($525/t) for 10,000-20,000t orders and at VND 13,734/kg for orders exceeding 20,000t on 15 October (see Kallanish passim).
“The market is quite slow, but I think that they will sell-out after the price cut,” a Vietnamese trader says. He estimates that the mill is offering 200,000t in total in its latest sales round.
Kallanish was not able to confirm this with FHS company sources.
"They could not collect sufficient orders because their price was high," another trader says.
