Japan's leading electric arc furnace steelmaker, Tokyo Steel, is to maintain prices for November sales amid deteriorating profits, subdued domestic steel demand and the uncertain global steel market.
November's base prices of its rebar, hot rolled coil, plate and H-shape steel stand at JPY 82,000/tonne ($545/t), JPY 91,000/t, JPY 97,000/t and JPY 100,000/t, respectively.
Japan's combined domestic and export steel orders fell to their lowest level in recent years in August (see Kallanish 20 October 2025). The steelmaker said in its price announcement that nationwide steel shipments have not recovered as expected since October.
But the company added that flats product exports to North America are showing recovery signals following the settlement of tariffs on US products.
Taiwan's China Steel Corporation decided to keep November quotes for all flats products unchanged in mid-October. Baosteel and Angang have also taken the same action for most grades of their products (see Kallanish passim).
