UAE rebar prices register uptick amid mixed outlook

The United Arab Emirates rebar market has seen a marginal uptick in retail prices for non-benchmark mills, including Omani suppliers.

Lower-end prices increased to AED 2,420/tonne ($659) from AED 2,400/t at the start of the month, while the upper range rose by AED 10/t to AED 2,450/t, supported by robust demand, Kallanish notes.

Benchmark mill rebar is currently being sold at AED 2,520-2,540/t delivered on credit.

Market participants – including traders, cut-and-bend operators, and mills – are divided in their expectations ahead of the Emirates Steel Industries (ESI) price announcement for November. Some anticipate a rollover, while others expect an increase, citing healthy demand levels.

ESI kept its list prices unchanged in October from September at AED 2,590/t ($705) ex-works, equivalent to AED 2,594/t cpt Abu Dhabi and AED 2,603/t cpt Dubai, Sharjah, and the Northern Emirates for 10-32mm rebar. An additional AED 92/t applies for 8mm diameter rebar.

A market rumour suggesting that a Chinese mill has obtained ECAS certification for rebar could not be verified on the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) website, though the process is under review.

Meanwhile, well-informed sources confirm that a Dammam-based Saudi mill has submitted its ECAS certification application after it already renewed its Dubai Central Laboratory (DCL) approval.
