Taiwanese mills request investigation on Vietnam’s CR stainless

Two Taiwanese stainless steel manufacturers, Yieh United Steel Corporation and Tang Eng Iron Works, have formally submitted an application to the Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance requesting the government initiate an anti-dumping investigation on Vietnamese cold-rolled stainless steel and impose duties, Kallanish learns.

The move comes after various sources reported earlier this year that Taiwanese manufacturers were gathering materials for this. In July, Yieh United issued a press release stating that CR stainless steel imports from Vietnam had surged from 2,066 tonnes in 2023 to 30,524t in 2024, with continued rapid year-on-year growth this year.

South Korea imposed provisional anti-dumping duties on Vietnamese CR stainless steel starting in December 2024, and four months later formally imposed the five-year tariffs at 11.37%-18.81%. This has further encouraged Vietnamese products to shift to Taiwan, where there are no trade barriers.

Yieh United emphasizes: "This move is not only for the company's own interests, but also for maintaining the sustainable development of Taiwan's stainless steel industry."

Vietnam, on the other hand, ended its 10-year anti-dumping duties on Taiwanese CR stainless steel in November 2024.
