Rebar output among the 137 Chinese steel mills under Mysteel's tracking remained almost unchanged on week over September 18-24, edging up by a minimal 100 tonnes to 2.06 million tonnes, according to Mysteel's latest release. Despite the small rise, it marked the end of a three-week drop in rebar output, Mysteel Global noted.
The rebar rolling capacity utilization rate among the 137 surveyed mills in another Mysteel survey held steady at 45.3% over September 18-24, unchanged from the previous week.
Some steel mills in Southwest China's Sichuan and North China's Shanxi provinces recorded major rises in output as they had resumed operations after maintenance and adjusted their rolling plans last week, according to Mysteel's weekly report.
Conversely, some steel mills in South China's Guangxi, Southeast China's Fujian and East China's Anhui posted largest drops as they conducted blast furnace maintenance during the survey week, according to the same report.
Meanwhile, the rebar inventories held by traders in commercial warehouses in the 35 Chinese cities Mysteel regularly follows fell by 2.7% or 133,200 tonnes on week to sit at 4.72 million tonnes over September 19-25.
On the other hand, those held by the 137 surveyed Chinese steel mills under Mysteel's tracking also edged down by 6,600 tonnes on week to 1.64 million tonnes over September 19-25.
However, the trading volume of long steel items including rebar remained tepid this week, as poor weather in several parts of China had frequently disrupted outdoor construction activity, Mysteel Global noted.
Typhoon Mitag and Super Typhoon Ragasa made landfall in South China's Guangdong province on September 19 and September 24 respectively, bringing torrential rains and strong gusts to the region, while some parts of Southwest and Northwest China also experienced heavy rains and even flooding late last week, as reported.
The daily spot trading volume of major construction steel products including rebar among the 237 trading houses Mysteel regularly follows averaged 106,509 tonnes/day over September 18-24, lower by a small 5% or 5,409 t/d on week.
