BYD ships 959 EVs from Thai plant to Europe

BYD has recently shipped 959 of its Thailand-made electric vehicle model, Dolphin, to European markets including the UK, Germany, and Belgium, Kallanish learns.

According to Chinese state media, the ro-ro vessel BYD Zhengzhou is exporting the first batch of left-handed Dolphin to the European market, from BYD’s Thai plant in Rayong province, as well as the first shipment from Thailand to Europe.

The plant has delivered 90,000 EVs as of last month, with a production capacity of 150,000 units/year.

“BYD’s decision to export EVs from Thailand to Europe demonstrates the strong economic links between Thailand and international markets,” comments Thailand’s Board of Investments.

Yuphin Boonsirichan, the chairwoman of the Automotive Industry Club, Federation of Thai Industries, believes this highlights Thailand’s capability to become a “global connection for EV production and exports.”

The Thai government says it will continue to promote and support such investments to strengthen the domestic value chain, enhance technological capabilities, and solidify Thailand’s position in the global EV industry. It aims for 30% of the country’s total vehicle production to be electrified by 2030.

Thailand’s National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee (EV Board) recently updated its EV3 and EV3.5 incentive schemes to encourage BEV makers to use the country as an “export base.”
