Vietnam's Hoa Phat Group has resumed the operations of No.1 blast furnace at its Dung Quat Iron and Steel Integrated Complex, following scheduled refractory maintenance, Kallanish learns from the company.
With the restart, all four blast furnaces under Dung Quat plant's first phase, each with a volume of 1,080 cubic-metre and a capacity of 1-1.2 million tonnes/year, are now in operation. The restart is expected to support sales volume for the second half of the year, helping the company stabilise output amid growing domestic demand, Hoa Phat says.
The Hoa Phat Dung Quat Complex is currently operating five blast furnaces, four of which belong to the Hoa Phat Dung Quat first-phase project. By comparison, the two blast furnaces planned in the Hoa Phat Dung Quat second-phase project each have a volume of 2,500 c-m with a total design capacity of 2.5-2.8m t/y (see Kallanish passim).
Hoa Phat has invested in advanced environmental technology at Dung Quat, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption beyond current regulatory standards. The group continues to lead in Southeast Asia in adopting closed-loop technology, using residual heat and surplus coke oven gas from steel production to power in-house electricity generation.
In the first half of 2025, Hoa Phat produced 90% of its electricity needed for steelmaking, saving around VND 3.5 trillion in energy costs.
The second phase of the Dung Quat project is scheduled for completion in September. Upon full ramp-up, Hoa Phat's annual crude steel capacity will reach 16m t/y, including 9m t/y of hot rolled coil.
