The slab import market in Indonesia is relatively stable, although Chinese steel prices rose sharply last month, Kallanish understands.
An Indonesian reroller booked slab from Oman for October shipment at $446/tonne cfr last week, importing sources in Jakarta say. Since Oman does not produce slab, this material is widely believed to be re-exported slab originating from Iran.
Omani slab offers are prevailing at $446-450/t cfr Indonesia. “Omani prices are stable despite the Chinese price increases,” an importer noted on Thursday. ASEAN slab is offered at higher prices, with Vietnamese and Indonesian slab offers priced at $472-480/t cfr Indonesia, he adds.
Chinese slab offers are currently at around $450/t fob, a Chinese trader says. Freight to Indonesia is around $18-20/t.
Vietnamese slab for October shipment is offered at $460/t fob, Vietnamese trading sources observe.
Indonesia’s Dexin Steel is offering slab for November shipment at $455/t fob since 1 August. The mill was offering slab at $430/t fob in early July.
