South Korean steelmakers have officially filed an anti-dumping petition to the Korea Trade Commission (KTC) targeting Chinese-origin galvanized and pre-painted steel products, according to an exclusive report by SNM News.
The application covers cold-rolled carbon and alloy steel products coated with zinc or zinc alloys, specifically GI, GL, and colour-coated steel, Kallanish notes. But the investigation excludes electro-galvanized (EGI), galvanized aluminium (GA), hot-rolled galvanized steel, and automotive-grade galvanized steel.
The petitioners are calling for anti-dumping duties of 25-30% on the targeted Chinese imports. Chinese steel producers, including Baosteel, Anshan Iron & Steel, and Rizhao Steel are named as key targets in the filing.
The KTC is expected to decide by 30 September whether to launch a formal investigation. If initiated, a preliminary ruling could be issued as early as the first quarter of next year.
