Saudi wire rod (WR) prices for August deliveries are unchanged from July, with leading domestic producers maintaining their existing levels. However, the market has started to see sharply lower-priced Chinese offers for future shipments, raising questions among traders, Kallanish notes.
One market source notes: “We heard September-mid loading ex-China low-carbon WR offers for 6.5-11mm diameter at around $500/tonne cfr Jebel Ali, UAE ports. But in the Saudi market, Chinese offers are even lower, some falling below Chinese billet offers, which are currently around $480-490/t cfr Jeddah for October shipment.” The source adds that those levels are “too good to suspect,” implying skepticism over the sustainability or authenticity of such low-priced quotes.
Domestically, Saudi producer Hadeed rolled over its August price at SAR 2,320/t ($618.6/t) delivered for 6.5-14mm wire rod. Al Ittefaq delivered prices across the nation, whilst Solb delivered to the south, west and central regions. List prices were set at SAR 2,280/t for both.
In addition, flexible pricing is being applied. Discounts of 1.5% and 1.8% are available, to SAR 2,240-2,250/t, depending on the curtomer's regular monthly pre-agreed intake volume.
