Vietnam's scrap imports in Jun driven by stronger demand

According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's scrap imports amounted to around 707,600 tons in June, slightly dropping by 0.1% compared to the previous month while surging by 57.5% from the same month a year ago. The continuous increase in Vietnam’s scrap imports was due to stronger demand before mid-May.

Among them, the top three import sources were the US (around 274,000 tons), Japan (around 250,000 tons), and Hong Kong (34,200 tons).

In the first half of this year, Vietnam’s scrap imports reached 3.46 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 32%, accounting for 55% of the annual import volume in 2020.
