Leapmotor International, a joint venture between Stellantis (51%) and Chinese carmaker Leapmotor (41%), has launched its own EV grant in the UK covering two models.
The move comes days after the UK announced its electric car grant scheme, which offers households discounts of up to £3,750 ($5,042) on vehicles priced under £37,000. London’s programme is tied to “strict” sustainability standards, and said to exclude Chinese models. However, details on the criteria and model eligibility are yet to be published, Kallanish notes.
“Consumers are still waiting to learn which vehicles will qualify, how much financial support will be available, and when the grants will take effect. This has left many potential car buyers in a state of limbo – unsure of when or how to take advantage of the promised incentives,” Leapmotor argues. “To offer clarity and simplicity for UK car buyers, Leapmotor’s LEAP-GRANT programme aims to help car buyers make the leap into electric by offering immediate savings of around 10% on the brand’s all-electric range.”
The scheme, available from 18 July, gives buyers £3,750 on the Leapmotor C10 all-electric family SUV, priced from £32,750. On a personal contract purchase, buyers pay £319 per month and a deposit of £319, on a 0% annual percentage rate finance.
For the Leapmotor T03 city car, a £1,500 grant will be applied. This BEV starts at £14,495, and can be financed for £169/month with a £169 deposit. The carmaker says that with the grant, the model becomes the most affordable five-door electric car on sale in the UK.
“We’ve decided to act now because we want to give customers clarity, confidence, and immediate savings – and make the switch to electric a simple choice,” adds Damien Dally, managing director of Leapmotor UK.
The promotion is valid for orders placed from 18 July to 30 September.
