In January-June 2025, Ukrainian steel companies increased their exports of flat rolled steel by 3.9% compared to the same period in 2024, to 865,430 tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.
More than 80% of exports are flat hot-rolled products (HS – 7208) – 724.35 thousand tons, which is 3.3% more year-on-year. The main consumers of products during the period were Poland – 302.13 thousand tons, Bulgaria – 193.6 thousand tons, and Italy – 42.64 thousand tons.
Another 12.9% of shipments, or 111.3 thousand tons (+7.7% year-on-year), accounted for flat cold-rolled products (HS – 7209). The key consumer of these products is Poland – 50.94 thousand tons. Another 13.73 thousand tons were exported to Bulgaria, and 9.96 thousand tons to Italy.
During this period, 29.11 thousand tons of coated flat rolled products (HS code 7210) were exported, which is 12.3% more than last year. 17.26 thousand tons of the corresponding products were shipped to Poland, 7.54 thousand tons to Romania, and 0.75 thousand tons to the Czech Republic.
In June, Ukrainian steelmakers exported 147.86 thousand tons of flat rolled products, which is 5.4% less than last year and 9.6% less than last month. Shipments of hot-rolled flat products amounted to 124.46 thousand tons (-8% y-o-y; -10% m-o-m), cold-rolled flat products – 18.28 thousand tons (+8.8% y-o-y; -14.6% month-on-month), coated flat products – 5.01 thousand tons (+64.9% year-on-year; +34.9% month-on-month).
In Q2, export volumes amounted to 432.35 thousand tons, which is 4.6% more than in the same period a year earlier, but 0.2% less than in Q1.
Revenue from flat steel exports in January-June decreased by 4.7% y-o-y – to $491.05 million, and in June by 3.9% y-o-y and 7.7% m-o-m – to $90.54 million.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024 Ukraine increased its exports of flat rolled steel by 36.1% compared to 2023, to 1.63 million tons. More than 80% of supplies were flat hot-rolled products – 1.363 million tons (+44.7% y-o-y). Another 12% or 201.71 thousand tons (+0.7% y-o-y) were flat cold-rolled products.
