China on Tuesday added three battery cathode material preparation technologies to export restrictions, Kallanish learns.
The Chinese ministry of commerce (MOC) and the ministry of science and technology (MOST) updated the catalogue of technologies prohibited and restricted for export “to safeguard national economic security and development interests and promote international economic and technological cooperation,” the MOC says in a statement. The battery cathode material preparation technology includes lithium iron phosphate preparation, lithium manganese iron phosphate, and phosphate cathode raw materials.
Technologies restricted from export will be subject to licensing management, the authorities said. Beijing has also restricted the exports of processing technologies under five non-ferrous metal metallurgy technologies, including the production of lithium carbonate from spodumene, lithium hydroxide production from spodumene, lithium extraction from brine, lithium metal (alloy), and lithium material preparation, as well as lithium-containing purification liquid preparation technology.
An MOC spokesperson comments: “As the battery cathode material preparation technologies have increased applications in many sensitive fields, including it in the catalogue will help to better coordinate development and security, promote the safe and sustainable application, and development of relevant technologies.”
