Petronas, TNB launch green hydrogen hub in Malaysia

Malaysian state oil and gas company Petronas and compatriot power utility TNB are collaborating on a green hydrogen hub to advance hydrogen production and its derivatives in Kenyir, Terengganu, Kallanish learns.

The companies have recently launched the so-called Hybrid Hydro Floating Solar (HHFS) and Green Hydrogen Hub in Terengganu, which they claim will help position Malaysia as a “regional leader” in the green H2 value chain. In a joint statement, they said the project is part of a 2.5-gigawatt hybrid solar-hydro initiative. However, details on green hydrogen production capacity, development timeline and potential end-users have not been disclosed.  

The hub is part of an integrated end-to-end value chain that encompasses round-the-clock renewables generation from resources such as the Kenyir HHFS facility. The aim is to convert green hydrogen into derivatives such as green methanol and green ammonia, TNB

“Our partnership in the Terengganu Green Hydrogen Hub is a cornerstone of our commitment to driving clean energy innovation. This project is crucial to Malaysia’s green hydrogen ambitions,” comments TNB chief executive Datuk Hassan.
