Peru's Shougang Hierro Perú (SHP) has announced the early completion of major repair works at its iron ore loading system, following the accident that occurred at the San Nicolás port facilities in May.
The incident resulted in the collapse of the company’s only gantry crane onto a vessel during loading operations, causing a backlog of iron ore and temporarily halting SHP’s shipping activities, Kallanish notes.
“After 54 days of intensive work, we have completed the repair works in Marcona,” SHP states. “Dry-run tests were successfully carried out, finishing the project 96 days ahead of the original schedule.”
SHP acknowledges the crucial support of various institutions, including the National Port Authority (APN), the Peruvian Ministry of Transport and Communications, as well as Shougang Corp, whose technical teams actively contributed to delivering the project in record time.
“We reaffirm our commitment to the safe and sustainable development of our mining activities and will continue to focus on achieving our production targets for 2025 under the same spirit of teamwork and efficiency,” SHP concludes.
