South Korea imposes tariffs on Chinese stainless plates

South Korea recently officially announced that it would impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese stainless steel plates for five-years after an investigation that began in September last year.

The new measures target stainless steel plates with a thickness of 4.75 mm or more and a width of 600 mm or more.

They are classified under HS codes 7219.21.1010, 7219.21.1090, 7219.21.9000, 7219.22.1010, 7219.22.1090, and 7219.22.9000.

The duty rate was set at 21.62%, notes Kallanish. This is the same as the temporary rate announced on 25 March.

In the first five months of 2025, South Korea imported 8,324 tonnes of the above products from China, an annual surge of 124%. Meanwhile, China’s share of supply soared from 22.4% to 54.1%.

In late May, South Korea also announced another AD duty on stainless steel flat-rolled products imported from China, as well as Indonesia and Taiwan (see Kallanish 20 May). That regulation targets products with a thickness of 8mm or less, with a duty rate of 23.69-25.82% against Chinese products.

However, it is worth noting that some of the products targeted in the two cases respectively do belong to the same batch of customs codes. They are 7219.22.1010, 7219.22.1090, and 7219.22.9000.
