Vietnamese HRC dips on weak demand

The import market for hot rolled coil in Vietnam remains quiet, Kallanish notes.

Last Friday, a leading reroller in Vietnam booked 30,000 tonnes of Indonesian SAE 1006 HRC at $490-492/tonne cfr for late-August shipment on 13 June. Some 30% of the cargo is 2mm thickness coil, a Hanoi trader reports. Another trader hears that offers for Indonesian HRC slipped on Thursday to $488-489/t cfr.

A supplier is still inviting bids for normal width 2mm and up thickness SAE 1006 HRC from China at $475/t cfr, a trader in Ho Chi Minh (HCM).  But he does not hear of any recent deals taking place. The US preliminary anti-dumping tariffs of 39.84- 88.12% have blocked Vietnamese coated steel exports, he notes.

An offer for 3-14mm thickness, wide 2,000mm width boron-added Q235 grade HRC for mid-August shipment is offered at $460/t cfr Haiphong or $463/t cfr HCM. Some reporting hearing lower offers for early August shipment of 3mm up thickness 2,000mm wide Q235 HRC at $455/t cfr Haiphong and $458/t cfr HCM. But there are no deals, traders say.

Kallanish assesses SAE grade 2-2.7mm thickness HRC at $488-492/t cfr Vietnam, down $2.5/t week-on-week.
